So Close: The Loja Teleferico

Before I ever got here, the town of Loja, Ecuador decided that they wanted to build a Teleferico (cable car) like the one in Quito that would draw tourists and locals to the top of a small hill overlooking the town. And they almost did. They built everything but the cables and cars. And I guess then they ran out of money. Now the castles at the top of the hill that were supposed to be full of tourists are these odd, slightly creepy structures, covered in graffiti with all the windows broken out, broken glass, etc. I heard there was a family living in one of them a while back and it smelled like…no need to elaborate. Anyway, Sara and I went on a hike up there a few weeks ago to take a look. Here are some pictures.
